FAQs & Resources

Do you charge for consultations?
I provide a free 15-20 minute consultation, which may be done via Zoom or by telephone.

What is the Divorce Mediation process?
When you call me, we’ll talk briefly about your situation and set up an appointment. The three of us will meet and talk things over. It gives us a chance to meet one another and discuss in some depth the steps we’ll take in mediation to resolve disputes, reach agreement and turn your agreements into a legally binding agreement. We will also schedule meeting times and begin gathering the information we need. You will determine the pace, the schedule, the issues, and ultimately the outcome. This process allows us the opportunity to involve consulting professionals (lawyers, appraisers, forensic accountants, therapists, etc.) in any or all stages of the process, if you wish. Once you have reached agreement, I can create the documents you need, send them to your consulting attorney for review, file them with the Court and send you the final Judgment dissolving your marriage. You will not have to appear in Court. In mediation, lawyers consult with you. They don’t litigate your case. This will preserve more assets for you and your family by limiting attorney fees.

How long does divorce mediation take?
All marital dissolution's are different, but a mediated settlement typically takes a fraction of the time a litigated one could. A mediated agreement is not subject to the court’s schedule of when the case can be heard. The parties to mediation have much less stress and disruption to their lives because they have more control over the timing than do parties to pending lawsuits. Litigated marital dissolution cases routinely take more than a year to complete. If one of the parties appeals, it takes even longer.

Do we need you if we have no children and we agree on everything?
I can help you finish the process and get your agreed-upon judgment entered.

Do you mediate custody and child support?
Yes. I mediate disputes about child custody and support in the initial dissolution or paternity proceeding. I also help people with those issues after a divorce is final and they need to discuss changes to these arrangements.
